Steam Workshop

GENRE: Game Mods
ROLE: N/A
ENGINE: Various
YEAR: 2018 - 2023

SKILLS USED:

- 2D art
- Promotional material and marketing

Over the years, I've made silly texture mods for various games, including Don't Starve and Terraria.

They aren't much, technically speaking, mostly being audio or texture swaps, but they managed to amass quite a lot of downloads!

I knew how to capitalise on the silly community trends well, and even earned the top spot on Terraria and Don't Starve's workshop, which was quite an accomplishment, especially for Terraria's extremely competitive workshop page.

I did start work on a few actual gameplay mods, which can be seen in the screenshots attached, but these were never finished and live on only through the art assets created for it.

RE4 Merchant texture pack

This is arguably my most successful project BY FAR.
Going by numbers, at least.
It's not even very complicated. All this does is reskin the Arms Dealer NPC into one that resembles the iconic Resident Evil 4 Merchant, along with rewriting all his dialogue to be quotes from the game.

I underestimated how many people like RE4 and before I knew it, I was holding a spot on the workshop page for an entire week, amassing 20,000 subscribers in the process.

JC Denton texture pack
This was essentially the precursor to the RE4 Merchant. I learned how Terraria's NPC and glow textures work, then figured out how to use the localization file feature to replace dialogue.
The Wall of Guide/Guide of Flesh

This started as a low-quality meme edit, and yet... it still amassed over 10,000 downloads.

This was my very first Terraria texture pack, but It's been edited a few times over the years to fit Terraria's art style more. Even if it IS a silly joke texture.

Don't Starve Workshop
Don't Starve was the first game I ever modded. And my mods were essentially glorified texture packs that used an extremely hacky method to reskin everything.
But it also had my first major success, as Eternally Screaming Wilson managed to get 1000 people to download it.
How? I have no idea. It was a silly community in-joke.

The other ones I created didn't do quite as well, but still were reasonably well-received.
I started work on two actual character mods, but similar to the Halo project for Terraria, never got finished.
Unreleased projects
There's a lot of Terraria projects that I never finished for one reason or another. These ranged from armour skins, more NPC replacements, and even a large-scale content mod that added weapons from Halo. The Halo project pre-dates most of the other Terraria projects, and only ever had one functioning weapon, and looking back on it... those sprites are pretty rough. But this was how I really got a foothold on spriting, leading to my later successes.
